Why you'll reach for it
What's good about it
- 01
Keeps its natural antioxidants
It is never refined, bleached or heated, so it keeps more of the coconut’s natural polyphenols than refined coconut oil does.
- 02
About half lauric acid
Roughly half of coconut oil’s fat is lauric acid, a medium-chain fatty acid that is also found in breast milk.
- 03
Helps hair hold on to its protein
In a lab study, coconut oil soaked into the hair strand and reduced the protein hair loses when washed. Sunflower and mineral oil did not (Rele & Mohile, 2003).
- 04
Steady at cooking heat
Coconut oil is mostly saturated fat, so it resists breaking down when you temper and shallow-fry.
- 05
Nothing added
Just pressed coconut oil, with no additives or preservatives.
- 06
Keeps well
Coconut oil is slow to go stale, so a bottle stays good in your kitchen for months.
Ways to use it
Cooking
Tempering, shallow frying and baking, wherever you want a coconut flavour.
Hair oil
Massage a little into your scalp and hair before a wash.
Dry skin
Rub a few drops into dry skin, heels, elbows and lips.
Oil pulling
Swish a spoonful around your mouth for 10 to 15 minutes, then spit it out.
